Ben Affleck says no amount of money is worth making a mediocre Batman movie

Ben Affleck’s solo Batman movie seems to be on track to come out sometime in 2018. Ben Affleck said himself it’s on pace to start shooting in the Spring. Greg Silverman said it’s set to come out in 2018 as he was stepping down from Warner Bros. So we are definitely getting a Batman movie in 2018, right?

Not if Ben Affleck doesn’t feel the movie is ready. While he recently said everything is really coming together and expects to start shooting in the Spring of next year, he talked with Entertainment Weekly about the progress on the film, noting he is still working on the script:

"I’m still working on the script. I’m not going to write and direct anything that I don’t think is good enough to be made. I’m definitely going to make sure I have something that is special—there’s not enough money in the world to make a mediocre version of Batman worth it."

This would actually explain why Warner Bros. pushed the Justice League sequel back in favor of Batman. Ideally, it’s probably set for 2018, but they want to have a wide range for when to put the movie out if it needs to be delayed for some reason. They delayed Batman v Superman from the Summer of 2015 to the Spring of 2016 because they thought it needed more time (it probably also needed a different script and director, but they couldn’t delay it that much longer…). It’s good to hear Ben Affleck won’t settle for anything less than what he feels is a good movie, and being that he’s an award-winning writer and director as well as a huge Batman fan, I think we can trust in Ben Affleck to deliver one hell of a Dark Knight movie.
