Stephen Collbert Sings Batman Christmas Carols Medley
All Christmas carols sound better with some Batman mixed in, as Stephen Colbert proves
It’s Christmas time, and with the holiday season comes lots of Christmas carols. Even Batman has a Christmas carol about him, done to the tune of Jingle Bells, but it’s not a particularly flattering one. Late Night With Stephen Colbert Musical Director Jon Batiste actually really hates that one, as it’s kind of a sad song. I mean, the Joker got away and Batman had car trouble. Robin laid an egg! That might actually be the most disturbing part of the whole carol. Robin is a teenage boy, how did he lay an egg? The song existed way before any female Robins existed, so it can’t be talking about them…
So to make up for this sad, sad Christmas song where Batman doesn’t win the day, Batiste decided to re-write a bunch of classic (public domain of course) Christmas songs. The difference being with Batman in them in some shape or form, and he and Stephen Colbert perform them as a medley, check it out below:

It’s a funny clip, but I think I would’ve preferred a full version of any of these songs. Specifically to see if they actually came up with full songs, or if they had this idea for a bit, could only come up with a couple lines per song, and then just said hell with it, we’ll cram them all together and make it a medley. Another good idea for a bit would probably have been a completely original song where Batman captures the Joker and saves the day on Christmas, making up for the original song where the Joker got away and his car broke down. You can watch Stephen Colbert and Jon Batiste singing a lot on Late Nights With Stepehen Colbert, which airs on CBS.
