WB Montreal’s Suicide Squad Game Canceled?

WB Montreal is reportedly dropping any work on a Suicide Squad game to focus fully on a Batman game starring Damien Wayne

There have been rumors floating around for quite awhile now that WB Montreal had two big DC Comic-based games in development. One was a Batman game starring Damien Wayne, and the other was based on the Suicide Squad. According to Kotaku, executives at Warner Bros. have decided to can the Suicide Squad game and the sole focus of the studio will be the upcoming Batman title.

Reportedly, the game starring the team also known as Task Force X had already been in development for at least two years. We don’t really know what shape the game was in, as nobody had really seen anything of the game and it’s never been officially announced. It was supposedly a co-op game and had been shown to Warner Bros. management at greenlight meetings, but management was apparently never very impressed by what they saw.

I don’t know if anybody expected a Suicide Squad game (other than that free one, which for a free game was pretty good) to come out alongside the movie’s release. In recent years, almost any decent console games that were licensed had at best a tertiary connection to any movie. Like yeah, a Batman game might be out around the same time as a movie he is in, but isn’t based on it at all.

Does this entirely kill hope that we will ever see a proper Suicide Squad console game? Well first consider that this is an unconfirmed report about a rumored in-development game. I mean it’s likely true, but nothing is official, just word from reliable sources. Also, with Suicide Squad still being one of 2016’s biggest hits and multiple spin-offs as well as a sequel in the works, I could certainly seeing a game starring the worst heroes ever still coming out in the next few years. It might even depend on how the Batman game starring Damien Wayne does. Let’s hope that’s not identical to the Arkham games just switching in Damien with Bruce, if you’re going to do that, make it a very different game.
