The Reason It’s Great

Forget about the abomination you witnessed in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Deadpool relaunches the character into the wise-cracking, fourth-wall-breaking Merc with a Mouth we all love. Ryan Reynolds emobodies the antihero perfectly and shows off his quick-witted comedic chops.

Wade Wilson is a former special forces operative who discovers that he has cancer that has metasticized beyond conventional treatments. He’s given a miracule cure in an experimental program that promises to turn him into a mutant—causing his body to cure itself. After being subjected to torture with no results, the researchers locks him in a chamber which deprives him of oxygen, causing an emergency response. The tactic works, but Wade is also left disfigured.

He escapes the facility in the hopes of finding a cure for his disfigurement. Ajax and Angel Dust, working for the facility, kidnap Wade’s girlfriend, Vanessa, and force him to meet them at an abandoned junkyard. In the end, Deadpool is able to save his girlfriend and reveals why he didn’t return to her sooner.

The film was hilarious as it was action-packed. It showed the heights comic book films can reach when studio execs allow their directors to have full creative control. Fans will be happy to hear that Deadpool 2 will be released in January 2018 with the addition of Cable to the cast.
