Suicide Squad Is An Oscar-Nominated Film?
Suicide Squad is nominated in the Oscar Category of Best Makeup/Hairstyling
Suicide Squad is looking to add to its list of critical accolades. Margot Robbie won a Critics’ Choice Award for her role as Harley Quinn. Now it’s looking to add Oscar gold to its resume.
The Oscars released the list of seven films possibly up for Best Makeup and Hairstyling. Suicide Squad is nominated alongside Deadpool, Star Trek, The Dressmaker, Florence Foster Jenkins, Hail Cesar! and A Man Called Ove (I’ve heard of maybe half of these films and only seen two).
Granted, Best Makeup and Hairstyling isn’t on the level of Best Picture, Actor/Actress, Screen Play, Director, etc. but it is something that takes a lot of talent and hard work and should be recognized. It is hard to judge Suicide Squad’s chances as out of these seven films as I’ve mentioned I’ve only seen that and Deadpool. But it would be easy to see Deadpool win just so Ryan Reynolds can do a bit about winning the award in full Deadpool getup.

Out of the seven films though, only 3 will make the cut to actually get to be officially nominated. Members of the Academy’s Makeup Artists and Hairstylists Branch are invited to view 10-minute excerpts from the films on January 7. After that, members will vote to nominate three films for final Oscar consideration.
This release was just a tease though. The Oscars won’t reveal all the nominees for their various categories until January 24th. Could Suicide Squad or any of the actors in it possibly get a nomination? Margot Robbie did win a Critics Choice Award after all. But the Oscars have a long history of not nominating “genre” films for their more prestigious categories, no matter how well they are received. The lone exception being Heath Ledger for Dark Knight and frankly I don’t think that would have happened if not for his untimely demise because that movie wasn’t even nominated in any other major categories.
The 89th Annual Academy Awards will be announced on January 24th, with the ceremony taking place February 26th at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
