Zack Snyder gave himself a very quick cameo in Batman v Superman

Directors love to insert themselves into their movies these days. Luckily, most of them are aware they don’t make great actors, so it’s usually limited to a quick scene. Maybe even a character in the background you might not even notice. David Ayer was a prison guard in Suicide Squad. The scene was cut from the theatrical release but made it back in for the extended cut release on home video (instead of you know, any footage that made the plot the least bit coherent). And Batman v Superman was no exception to this trend of directors inserting themselves into the film in some small manner. Back in 2015, director Zack Snyder had said that he had a cameo in the film, but noted “You won’t see my face. I pick some things up, but that’s it”.

Batman v Superman cinematographer Larry Fong recently revealed that in fact director Zack Snyder “played” Bruce Wayne for a very brief scene in the film.

Is there a particular reason for this? And Fong responded that actors sometimes aren’t interested in doing very minor shots like that, but directors often are:

I’m all for director cameos as long as they don’t distract from the movie. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a brief Zack Snyder cameo in Justice League. Maybe he can say he’s Jimmy Olsen and get killed immediately. Oh wait…
