Suicide Squad Given Watchmen-style Opening

Suicide Squad with a Watchmen-esque opening looks pretty cool, check it out

One good thing I’ll say about Zack Snyder is that the man has a real good sense of style for his movies and can usually have one hell of an opening. Batman v Superman had an amazing opening. Especially considering it’s a re-telling of the most filmed death ever, Thomas and Martha Wayne, and it’s possibly the best one. He did a similarly fantastic opening with Watchmen, which while a very problematic movie, had an incredible visual style. Would Suicide Squad have been a better film being more akin to that Watchmen style?

We’ll never know for sure but we can get some idea thanks to a fan video that takes the opening of Suicide Squad and remakes it into a Watchmen-esque opening to the very appropriate tune of the Bee Gees “I Started A Joke”.  Check out the opening to Watchmen, which is set to the tune of Bob Dylan’s “The Times They Are A Changin” and compare it to the redone opening for Suicide Squad below:

One thing I would give this opening is that it does a far more efficient job of introducing the characters in just over 3 minutes than the actual Suicide Squad movie does in 30. And it’s just one very appropriate montage to a song instead of several that seem chosen completely at random and don’t fit.

However, while this would give the movie a much faster and cooler opening, this would hardly fix all the numerous problems with the film when it came to editing and plot holes. And despite his penchant for style, Zack Snyder hasn’t proven he’d do a better job than David Ayer did. Suicide Squad is available now on Blu-Ray and DVD.
