NetherRealm Studios Ed Boon revealed the release date for Injustice 2, and it’s this May

When is Injustice 2 coming out? Is it late March, as was indicated by a pre-order page on the Xbox One storefront? Is it sometime in April, like every previous NetherRealm Studios game? Turns out it’s neither.

Ed Boon revealed on Twitter today the release date of the alternative timeline DC brawler, and it’s in May, which is the first time the studio has released a game outside of the month of April. Here’s Boon’s Tweet, which is still pinned to his Twitter profile:

The “i2” at the beginning stands for Injustice 2, and unless he’s doing something weird with the date, it’s fairly obvious that this states the game will be coming out this May. May 16th to be exact.

Of course, there’s still a ton we don’t know about this game. We’ve seen a lot on the new gear system and how it works, but we don’t know the storyline (and yes, this is one of those rare fighting games where the story matters) and most of the roster at this point. I would think more will be revealed over the course of the next 4 months. But it would be kind of cool if they just kept an air of secrecy about the game and didn’t release any more information until it was actually out.

Though not confirmed, I think a May release makes it even more likely that Injustice 2 will be coming to Nintendo Switch. I mean, if there’s an iOS and Android version, a Switch version is pretty feasible at least. Which would actually be good incentive for me to not only get that version, but get a Switch period as it’s the type of game I could easily get a quick session in during my break at work or something. Injustice 2 is out for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, iOS, Android and maybe Nintendo Switch May 16th.
