Agents Of SHIELD Season 4, Episode 9 Synopsis: “Broken Promises”

Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD returns from it’s 2016 winter hiatus and we learn more about AIDA’s obsessive pursuit of the Darkhold.

Before Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD left for its 2016 winter hiatus, “The Laws of Inferno Dynaimcs” gave audiences a team-up of Ghost Rider and SHIELD going up against a power-drunk Eli Morrow. And AIDA, in the final scenes, was up to some no good.

Robbie’s good ole Uncle Eli created something known as the Demon Core—a power source and a self-destruct mechanism if things were to not go his way. Robbie was able to enter the building housing the Demon Box, but Eli was one step ahead and trapped him with carbon spears.

SHIELD soon learned that Eli isn’t really breaking the Law of Thermodynamics—creating something out of nothing—he was actually drawing quantum energy from another dimension. If this continued, it would cause a giant rift. Yeah, not good.

With the team working together, SHIELD infiltrated Eli’s hideout. However, Robbie sacrificed himself and took Eli with him into the other dimension—where the Demon Box exploded—saving everyone.

Back at SHIELD headquarters, the team celebrated another win … but not so fast. AIDA was up to something nefarious. Remember the brain she was constructing? We soon saw Melinda battered, bruised, and held captive by the android. And another Melinda was having a drink with Coulson.

This week, we’ll learn what AIDA has been up to, as the rest of the season will have the android be the big bad for our team of agents (um, Age of Ultron, anyone?). Here’s the official synopsis:

Meanwhile, Aida is unrelenting in her search for the Darkhold, on “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” TUESDAY, JANUARY 10 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EST), on the ABC Television Network."
