Via Entertainment Weekly, we get our first look at the Defenders—Matt Murdock, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Danny Rand—together. I’m sure fans were hoping for a pic of them in costume or in some action shots, but this will have to do for now. In Marvel we trust, because the studio is definitely playing a long game of teasing its fans, so the payoff will definitely be well-deserved.
The plot for the series is currently unknown, but Sigourney Weaver’s villainous character, Alexandra, will be central to the series’ storyline. Her character is also still a bit of a mystery. Showrunner Marco Ramirez has described the character as being “a very powerful force in New York City. She’s everything Sigourney is: sophisticated, intellectual, dangerous.”
Before the series debuts, fans will be getting the first season of Marvel’s Iron Fist. Due to the very serial and crossover nature of these Netflix/Marvel shows, Iron Fist’s plot may segue directly into the multi-hero extravaganza. Other storyline candidates may be the continuing narrative of the Hand from Daredevil‘s Season 1 and Season 2.
Though the Punisher’s appearance in the ensemble series hasn’t been explicitly mentioned by the producers, fans are still holding out hope that he’ll make an appearance. When Jon Bernthal debuted his Frank Castle, the character quickly became a highlight of the already exciting Daredevil Season 2.
