This week on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, the team goes to 1776 to protect George Washington.

Last week on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow‘s “The Legion of Doom” episode, Malcolm Merlyn and Damien Darhk discover that Eobard Thawne has been playing the two against each other. And all three grow irritated at Rip Hunter’s lack of recall of the Spear of Destiny’s location.

Poor Rip had already been through enough—he’s lost his memories, been taken on a traumatic ride with his forgotten team, and kidnapped by the Legion of Doom. The latest in his venture into unfortunate events was being tortured for information.

Though the old Rip was lost, he still had that sly “Rip-ness” about him. That’s why he saw an opportunity to make Malcolm and Damien aware that Eobard has been using them. The two quickly form an alliance and find what Rip (old Rip) has been hiding—it wasn’t the Spear of Destiny. It was a mnemonic device housing Rip’s memories and identity.

Both Malcolm and Damien, knowing that Eobard must be running from something, trap Eobard in a single location. As Eobard grew desperate, he agreed to an equal partnership. And we soon saw what the Reverse-Flash was running from—Black Flash.

The three worked together and trapped the creepy speedster, cementing their now equal alliance. Back at their hideout, Eobard makes some tweaks to Rip’s old memories before reinserting them back to their owner.

We soon see the results of those adjustments. In 1776 New Jersey, Rip (back to his old self and speaking with a British accent) quickly assassinates General George Washington. This week, we’ll learn why killing America’s founding father is intricate to the Legion of Doom’s plans. Here’s the official synopsis:

“Turncoat”

"A GOOD FIGHT — When The Legends find a new Time Aberration they learn they must travel to the winter of 1776 to protect George Washington and the American Revolutionary War. Unfortunately, things don’t go as planned, forcing Sara (Caity Lotz) to send out Nate (Nick Zano) and Amaya (Maisie-Richardson-Sellers) to help. Meanwhile, Jax (Franz Drameh) and Stein (Victor Garber) who are busy protecting the incapacitated Waverider from their new enemy, are forced to step into roles that they don’t think they are prepared for."
