Agents Of SHIELD Season 4, Episode 15 Synopsis: “Self Control”

This week on Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, paranoia runs rampant when LMDs take over SHIELD.

Last week on Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD‘s “The Man Behind the Shield” episode, the team scrambled to find Director Mace, who was being held by Watchdog leader Anton Ivanov. We soon learn that Mace was being used as bait for Coulson.

Director Mace was held at an unknown location. An attempt to escape only left him even more battered and bruised. As SHIELD followed a GPS signal to Mace’s battle suit, they learned that Ivanov had a personal score to settle with Coulson.

In a series of flashback sequences, Coulson was shown “some time ago” on a mission to steal a MacGuffin. May, who we later learned requested this mission, surprised Coulson. Though Coulson didn’t like having her as a partner, she would later “save his a–.” The sequence did double-duty in showing why Ivanov had a score to settle, and the type of relationship Coulson had with May.

Back to the present, the team finally located Mace, who’s had the life virtually beat out of him. Ivanov—acting like a stereotypical plot-revealing bad guy—told Coulson that he lured him here as revenge. When Coulson stole the item, Ivanov’s men were executed for failing at their duties. Coulson, acting like Coulson, went on to insult Ivanov, telling him that he didn’t even remember the mission, let alone Ivanov’s dead men.

Coulson then left and Daisy stepped in—definitely justice since she’s an Inhuman and wanted to face the leader of an organization bent on killing her and her kind. Defeating Ivanov, the team regroups only to watch Aida escape in a submarine.

Back at SHIELD headquarters, Jemma starts to question a feeling of unaccounted time during the mission. Going off of that gut feeling, Fitz digs deeper and the two soon learn that a majority of the team are LMDs, who are now inside of SHIELD.

This week, it’s up to FitzSimmons to neutralize the situation—unless they themselves are LMDs also. It wouldn’t be that big of a surprise knowing the twists this show has performed in the past. Here’s the official synopsis:
