Supergirl Season 2, Episode 17 Synopsis: “Distant Sun”
By Steve Lam
This week on Supergirl, aliens come to National City to collect a bounty on Kara.
Last week on Supergirl‘s “Star-Crossed” episode, Kara and Mon-El’s relationship hit some rough waters when she learns a secret he’s been hiding. And Lyra gets Winn into trouble with the law.
Kara and Mon-El were pretty much on cloud 9 with their relationship, that is, until an alien ship breached Earth’s atmosphere—demanding Mon-El to be turned over. Supergirl soon went on the offensive. After a tiff with missiles and the Girl of Steel fighting back, Mon-El voluntarily gave himself up to keep Kara safe.

The big secret is soon revealed when Mon-El comes clean. He’s the Daxamite prince and his parents, the king and queen, have arrived to retrieve him to restart their civilization. Kara is angered that Mon-El hid this fact from her. She now wants to reevaluate their relationship.
Meanwhile, Winn’s girlfriend, Lyra gets him into a bit of trouble. She lures him into breaking into a museum for a romantic getaway. But the real reason was so she could get access to a rare painting.
Winn and the DEO soon catch up to Lyra and they learn that she stole the valuable art to free her brother, who’s been kidnapped by an alien gangster. Winn agrees to help Lyra, eventually freeing her brother and busting up the criminal ring.
After some time apart, Kara decides to break up with Mon-El. Her life was difficult enough without the constant lying. On top of that, Kara thought Mon-El shouldn’t give up an opportunity to be with his people. However, Mon-El later told his parents to leave, as he likes his new life and the hero he’s becoming.
In the final scenes, a mysterious man, the Music Meister, purposely allows himself to be arrested by the DEO. His goal was to gain access to the portal device Cisco gave to Kara. After placing Kara under a coma, the Music Meister steals the device and portals to another Earth. Kara soon awakens to a world where she’s a singer—which takes us to the crossover episode on last week’s The Flash.
