Agents Of SHIELD Season 4, Episode 16 Synopsis: “What If…”

This week on Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, Daisy and Jemma must save their friends from a Hydra-controlled world.

Before Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD went on hiatus, most of the team was placed inside the Framework—a “dreamworld” where Hydra was the dominant entity. Meanwhile, Jemma and Daisy executed a plan to infiltrate this virtual reality to save their friends.

“Self Control” was one of the show’s strongest episodes to-date. We opened with Leo and Jemma not knowing which one of their agent friends to trust. Paranoia really set in when the two suspected each other of being LMDs—it turns out Leo was the decoy.

Jemma (and how I love how this character has grown) goes into action and disables fake-Leo by stabbing him … it? … in the neck. She soon runs into Daisy and the paranoia is replayed. However, they both soon discover each other to be their true genuine selves.

The two quickly moved through SHIELD and were able to defeat the real decoys: fake-Coulson and fake-Mack. And let’s not forget that fake-May gave a great assist to the good guys. Why? She was programmed a bit too well. She actually thought she was May.

In Aida-land, Radcliffe discovered that he designed her to be too protective of the Framework. Seeing that Radcliffe was the biggest threat to his own magnum opus, Aida slashed her creator’s wrists and placed him inside the virtual reality.

As Daisy and Jemma regrouped with the rest of the agents, they formed a plan to infiltrate the Framework and save their friends. The two soon awaken to a world where Hydra is the dominant force. This week, Agents of SHIELD returns with Daisy and Jemma trying to unravel this twisted reality. Here’s the official synopsis from ABC:
