Krypton: First Trailer For SyFy’s Man Of Steel Prequel Series
By Steve Lam
The first trailer for Krypton has leaked, and it shows Superman’s grandfather fighting to save his homeworld.
JoBlo has leaked the first Krypton trailer. You may be asking, “Was that even a thing?” Yes, it was. And, coincidentally, I was just thinking about this show late last week—as in “whatever happened to it?”
Krypton was announced in late 2014—almost three years ago. The only other update fans got was a character roster in June 2016, so there hasn’t been much buzz around this show … until now.
With the reception the DC Extended Universe has been getting, I thought the show had already been scrapped. Well, not so. It’s very much alive and kicking, and here’s a trailer to prove that it is still happening. And you better watch it soon, as we all know what happens to leaked media. So check out the unofficial official trailer:
Set as a prequel to Man of Steel, which means it occurs within the DCEU, Krypton follows the exploits of Seg-El, Superman’s grandfather. David Goyer has stated that this show will be to Superman as Gotham is to Batman.

One of the strangest things I noticed about the trailer was Seg-El’s narration. He’s speaking to Kal-El as if he knows Krypton’s destruction is imminent. Superman fans know that the Man of Tomorrow’s Fortress of Solitude gives him the ability to converse with deceased figures via artificially intelligent holograms. So does this mean that the show is one big flashback sequence?
Overall, the trailer isn’t that interesting. And for an advanced culture, they have a pretty silly and barbaric way of identifying lineage—cutting themselves and using their blood. I would think these Kryptonians had developed a DNA scanner already. Oh well, maybe writers thought it would be a cool-looking scene.
As a Superman fan, I’m interested to see how they’re approaching this. However, saying that this is what Gotham is to Batman isn’t instilling much confidence in me. Gotham‘s writing isn’t very strong or sophisticated, and the characters are pretty one-note.
Are you looking forward to Krypton? Does the trailer change your mind? Let us know in the comments.
