DC Comics writer Greg Rucka is leaving the Wonder Woman Rebirth title after Issue #25 to take on new projects.

It’s not a goodbye it’s a see you soon for writer Greg Rucka, who is moving on from DC Comics’ Wonder Woman series after issue #25. Rucka looks forward to spending some time with his creator-owned titles “Black Magick” and “Lazarus” through Image Comics, “Stumptown” from Oni Press, and “Lady Sabre,” a title Rucka has developed through support on Kickstarter.

The DC Comics Rebirth line publishes every two weeks and the accelerated pace has been challenging for artists and writers looking to work on multiple projects at the same time. Having to plan stories twice a month as opposed to once a month has squashed his ability to focus on his various pursuits.

Rucka considers himself fortunate to have been part of the Wonder Woman family on two separate occasions:

"Writing Diana again has been an amazing experience, on the level of a dream-come-true. All any of us who’ve worked on the book this last year have wanted is to serve her well, to illuminate what we so absolutely believe makes Wonder Woman such a remarkable and unique and timeless and important character. To have had that opportunity is something that I doubted I would ever get again. Most of us don’t get a single bite at the apple, let along two, you know? To get that opportunity at a time when Diana is rising to such (long-overdue) prominence makes that apple all the sweeter. That she’s turned 75 during the course of our run — to ruin the analogy — icing on the cake."

The current Wonder Woman storyline is set to conclude in #23 and Rucka’s final bow, issue #25, will be a platform for the writers who follow in his footsteps.

Rucka has no doubt that he’ll be back with DC Comics at some point in the future, but for now be sure to check out and support Rucka’s other work.

Wonder Woman #21 arrives at comic shops on April 26.
