Happy National Superhero Day from Her Cape!

Heroes come in all shapes and sizes and they don’t have to wear a cape. On this National Superhero Day, Her Cape celebrates all of the superheroes in our lives.

It’s National Superhero Day!

From Batgirl to Black Widow, Batman to Iron Man, we love our superheroes. Whether your favorite superhero flies around, has metahuman strength or wears a cape, this is the day to celebrate your favorite superheroes.

Growing up, I was always a Batman fan. I liked that Batman didn’t need superpowers to do what he did. (Later on I came to realize that all he needed was a super bank account, but that’s what happens when you have to become an adult)

I used to watch old reruns of the 1960s Batman series with Adam West and Burt Ward, and my favorite episodes were the ones with Yvonne Craig as Batgirl. When Batman: The Animated Series premiered, Batgirl wasn’t a regular on the show but she was still a valued member of the team.

Over the years I’ve come to appreciate Harley Quinn as a favorite. She might not be a superhero (she’s more of a grey area girl) but she does noble things, and one of my favorite Harley-isms is her love of animals and her mission to protect them. Harley Quinn is an example of someone who might not seem like a superhero on the outside, but doing good things, and doing the right thing, is important to her.

It’s important to note, however, is that superheroes don’t need to wear capes to be heroes. They don’t need to be characters in comic books or action movies. They can be people we look up to, like First Responders or members of the Armed Forces. They can be your hard working parents, or someone in your life battling a life threatening disease.

On this National Superhero Day let’s remember all of the heroes in our lives, whether they have superpowers or not.
