Gotham Season 3, Episode 16 Synopsis: “Heroes Rise: These Delicate And Dark Obsessions”
By Steve Lam
This week on Gotham, the Court of Owls has new ideas of what they want to do with the city.
Last week on Gotham‘s “How the Riddler Got His Name” episode, Ed was trying to find his place in the world after killing Penguin. Meanwhile, Jim had some hard-hitting questions for his long-lost Uncle Frank.
Ed was on the hunt—not for a victim, but for a mentor. He was looking for a villainous Miyagi to his villainous Daniel-san. To filter the list of potential candidates, Ed used a series of strategic riddles. He soon realized—after talking to a self-induced hallucination of Penguin—that he needed a foe that equaled his intelligence.

Ed’s first choice was the unavailable Jim Gordon, so he moved on to the next best thing: Lucius Fox. Lucius was able to keep up with Ed’s riddles, leading to an abducted Harvey. At the end of Ed’s deadly game, Lucius saves Harvey. However, Ed wasn’t done yet. He kidnapped Lucius and declared himself to be “The Riddler.”
In Jim-land, the detective had to deal with his Uncle Frank’s impromptu visit. In a series of tense conversations, Jim learned that Peter (his father) and Frank were both part of the Court of Owls. And Frank was here to recruit him. Frank reasoned that both he and Jim can destroy the Court from the inside.
As for Bruce Wayne, he was tricked by his doppelganger under the false notion that Selena Kyle wanted to talk to him. The doppelganger was quickly able to do a switch-out, with the real Bruce now confined to a prison cell at an unknown mountainous location.
This week, the Court of Owls has a new plan for Gotham, as Jim digs up more secrets about his father and Frank. And Bruce meets a mysterious Shaman. Here’s the official synopsis from Fox:
