Gotham season 3, episode 18 synopsis: “Heroes Rise: Light the Wick”

This week on Gotham, Jim will learn about the Court of Owl’s secret weapon, and Bruce starts his training with the Temple Shaman.

Last week on Gotham‘s “Heroes Rise: The Primal Riddle” episode, Ed dug further into the conspiracy of the Court of Owls, leading him to kidnap Mayor Aubrey James for the answers. And Penguin and Ivy start to recruit the former residents of Indian Hill.

Jim Gordon was well on his way to take Frank’s place as one of the members of the Court of Owls. There was one caveat though. Kathryn, the head of the Court, still distrusted him. She needed one more test.

Edward Nygma has fully embraced his new “Riddler” title. When he meets with Barbara, she gives him a task that’s too enticing to give up—find out who’s above her in power. Knowing that Doctor Strange previously mentioned a secret society, Ed happily accepts the challenge.

Abducting Aubrey James and threatening him with torture, Ed learns about the Court of Owls. Ed plans to use this new knowledge and force the Court to reveal themselves. Going on live television, Ed calls out to the Court. Kathryn—wanting the Court to stay a secret—soon contacts Jim and reminds him that he still has to prove himself. Jim agrees to apprehend Ed and hand him over to the Court.

When the Ed and Jim rendezvous at the GCPD, Jim gets the upper hand, but still offers to take Ed to get his answers. Jim and Ed finally meet with Kathryn. As Ed voluntarily goes with her—thinking that he’ll be getting the answers to his biggest riddle—Jim’s seat at the Court’s table becomes official.

Meanwhile, Penguin and Ivy have been building up their army. They first visit Victor Fries, a.k.a. Mr Freeze. He’s reluctant at first, but Penguin convinces him with a deal: help him and he’ll give Victor the means to cure himself.

Their next stop is Bridgit Pike, a.k.a. Firefly, who is now working at a metal refinery. With nothing going for her except an overbearing boss, Bridgit happily accepts.

This week, Jim’s membership in the Court affords him the knowledge of what they intend to use to destroy Gotham. And Bruce starts his training with the mysterious Temple Shaman. Here’s the official synopsis from Fox.
