In the Season 4 finale of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, Ghost Rider returns, and the team tries to stop Aida from ending the world.
Season 4 of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD has been one heck of a ride. Ghost Rider was introduced, the team battled AIDA and her LMDs, and everyone was trapped for a while in the Framework—where they lived in a Hydra-controlled world. This week, the season comes to an end, and like all season finales of the show, it’s sure to leave us on the edge of our seats.
Ghost Rider is slated to return for this episode. Robbie Reyes’s fiery introduction (pun intended) gave the agents a taste of things to come. The drama soon led them to find the Darkhold—a grimoire that was so powerful it would drive anyone trying to read it insane.

Because of the Darkhold’s dangers, Radcliffe used AIDA—an LMD he created—to read it and construct a portal to free Coulson and Fitz from the “upside down.” It proved successful, but the Darkhold ended up corrupting AIDA’s programming. This led her to create LMDs in a bid to replace all the agents—starting with May.
Radcliffe, misguided, wanted to build a virtual world—the Framework—where humans would transcend mortality. He started to place each agent in a dream-like state, each thinking they were in a genuine reality. Daisy and Jemma would soon enter the Framework to rescue their friends. Upon entering, they were greeted by a Hydra-dominated world.
After a bit of resistance, Daisy and Jemma were able to convince their friends that this world wasn’t real. All of them, sans Mack (who chose to stay because his daughter, Hope, was alive in this world), later exited the Framework through one of Radcliffe’s back doors.
As everyone rejoined the real-world, they discovered that Aida not only has Inhuman powers, but has gone completely homicidal from Fitz’s rejection. Her ultimate goal now is to destroy the world.
