The Flash season 3, episode 23 synopsis: “Finish Line”
By Steve Lam
On the Season 3 finale of The Flash, Barry fights Savitar one last time.
With “Flashpoint” kicking off Season 3 of The Flash, Barry learned—again—that his actions have consequences. Going back to his original timeline, Barry discovered Cisco’s brother (who was live before the events of Flashpoint) was now dead. And metahumans who had never existed, were now popping up everywhere.
His superhero life wasn’t the only thing that went topsy-turvy. At the CCPD, he gained a lab partner—Julian Albert, who would later turn out to be Doctor Alchemy. After Barry freed him from Savitar’s control, Julian became an integral member of Team Flash.

Later, Caitlin Snow started to exhibit metahuman abilities. Conscious of what she was becoming, Caitlin did everything she could to prevent her Killer Frost fate. But it proved to be a futile attempt, as Caitlin, after her death, transformed into her villainous persona.
Given all these problems, the biggest thing on the team’s mind was knowing Iris West’s eventual fate—Savitar killing her. Most of Season 3 was dedicated to Barry and Team Flash doing everything they could to prevent this future event from happening.
A critical component to saving Iris was actually finding out Savitar’s true identity. And the answer was a shocker (well, maybe not to a few keen-eared fans who knew Savitar didn’t say “I am the future, Flash,” but “I am the future Flash“).
Savitar turned out to be Barry’s time remnant that he will eventually create to battle Savitar—a sort of infinite loop. In order for Savitar to exist, the time remnant must kill Iris in order for Barry to create the time remnant to stop him. Yeah, it’s enough to make any layperson’s head spin.
With the help of new team member Tracy Brand, the team formed a daring plan to save Iris. But Savitar was one step ahead of them, and Iris would quickly meet her demise at the hands of the God of Speed.
This week, with everything lost, Barry makes a final stand against Savitar. Here’s the official synopsis from The CW:
“Finish Line”
"With nothing left to lose, Barry (Grant Gustin) takes on Savitar in an epic conclusion to season three."
