Harley Quinn’s Critter Corner: NJ’s Freedom Farm Animal Rescue

This week’s edition of Harley Quinn’s Critter Corner takes us to New Jersey to shine the spotlight on New Jersey’s Freedom Farm Animal Rescue.

If it was up to Harley Quinn we’d all have a dozen cats, two dozen dogs and at least a gross of parakeets. How many parakeets are in a gross, you ask? A lot. However, we can’t all fill empty buildings with stray animals, and neither can Harley. (Believe me, she tried) So we can do the next best thing–support animal rescue groups that are out there trying to help animals in need. It’s the Harley thing to do.

Harley Quinn’s Critter Corner will shine a spotlight on an animal rescue organization that can use a few heroes, and their next hero just might be you!

This week we’re happy to feature New Jersey’s Freedom Farm Animal Rescue. Freedom Farm is home to over 200 animals that have been rescued over the years, including those pulled from slaughterhouse and livestock auctions. Without their work, so many of these beautiful creatures would be gone.

Founder Jamie Castano started Freedom Farm Animal Rescue in 2014 with the goal of rescuing animals in need. His mission, which focuses mainly on farm animals (any any others that show up), is to save animals from abuse and neglect, as well as those destined for slaughter. Castano’s work has saved countless lives and has put a spotlight on the treatment of animals in the food industry.

To put their work in perspective, they go through 2700 pounds of hay each week feeding their animals. That’s a lot of hay! They need support from donors to help pay fees to pull animals from livestock auctions. You’d be amazed at how some farmers would rather send an animal to slaughter than relinquish it to rescuers, so oftentimes groups must pay to free these animals and save their lives.

Organizations like Freedom Farm Animal Rescue need your help to continue their amazing work. They are currently raising money to purchase a plot of land to make a permanent home for the animals in their care. To make a tax-deductible donation, please visit their fundraising page.
