The Joker movie: Leonardo DiCaprio reportedly wanted for main role

Leonardo DiCaprio is reportedly a target for the lead role in the planned movie for the Joker.

The announcement on Warner Bros.’ creation of a movie about the Joker was just the latest plan for a comic book-related film. There are already plenty on the way for the next three years, including a Suicide Squad 2, so the list keeps on growing.

As for the role of the Joker in this villain’s own movie, one would think Jared Leto steps into the role he played in Suicide Squad, right? It was a Warner Bros. production.

However, that may not be the case. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. will make a push for Leonardo DiCaprio to star in the lead role. It will use producer Martin Scorsese to try to get DiCaprio involved in the film.

DiCaprio and Scorsese’s connection will be tied to the movie, The Departed. Scorsese directed it and DiCaprio was one of the main stars. It also won four honors at the 79th Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

DiCaprio hasn’t dived into the comic book world in his extensive acting career, so it would be a change of course from films like The Revenant, Titanic, and The Wolf of Wall Street. These movies are far from anything he’s done, although he played a villainous role in Django Unchained as Calvin J. Candie.

Whoever plays the Joker in the future origins film, will step into new territory for the current landscape of comic book movies. There rarely are villain-centered movies, although the picture for the famous Spider-Man villain, Venom, will come about in the fall of 2018. Tom Hardy will play Venom.
