Wonder Woman: Patty Jenkins to direct sequel for record money
Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins will return for the franchise’s sequel, and for a reported record deal.
Wonder Woman sustained success throughout the summer. It reeled in over $800 million worldwide, and might have been one of the DCEU’s biggest wins of the past few years after films like Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad.
Behind the success of Wonder Woman, was director Patty Jenkins. The 46-year-old led the way on this box office sensation and received plenty of praise for her work.
A Wonder Woman sequel is already on the way and any doubt of Jenkins directing it was put to rest on Monday. Variety reported she’ll be back at the helm for the second movie, with a pay of around $8 million to direct, produce and write it. She’s now the highest-paid female director ever.
Jenkins’ sequel is expected to be released on Dec. 13, 2019, with over two years to prepare. It will come long after this November’s Justice League, which Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot will be in. After that, there’s Aquaman in 2018, Cyborg in 2020 and Flashpoint. There could be a second Justice League, as well.
It’s a loaded slate of DCEU movies that will hit theaters before and after the Wonder Woman sequel. That doesn’t include what Marvel will put out, including two Avengers movies (one in 2018 and the other in 2019), Black Panther, Ant-Man and the Wasp and more.
