A line heard in Thor: Ragnarok was influenced by a Make-A-Wish kid.
Movie fans are excited to see Marvel’s upcoming release, Thor: Ragnarok. Thor is one of the most unexpected comic book characters to be so successful in the mainstream.
The Thor movies have grossed over $387 million at the box office worldwide and the Norse god has become more popular than ever. It’s clear to see that one of the strengths that the filmmakers can play with about Thor is humor. On its surface, Thor is a very funny character and might be on par with Iron Man when it comes to one-liners.
In the first trailer for Ragnarok, one of the big takeaways was Thor’s wonderful reaction for when he sees the Incredible Hulk as his opponent in the gladiator arena. We don’t know much about the story yet, but can tell that from all the awful things that must have happened to Thor to get him to this point, seeing his comrade definitely gave him some hope. “We know each other, he’s a friend from work,” Thor yells, allegedly to Loki or Jeff Goldblum’s character, known as The Grandmaster.
The fun fact about that now famous line is it wasn’t in the script, as it was improvised on set. According to Entertainment Weekly, Chris Hemsworth was being interviewed at this year’s comic con by an EW Reporter named Julia Cunningham about the new film. The actor told her that the line from the trailer wasn’t made up by the director, or actors, or any crew member but from a young fan:
"“We had a young kid, a Make-A-Wish kid on set that day. He goes, ‘You know, you should say, ‘He’s a friend from work!’”"

That’s so delightful to hear that a young fan like had an idea that was so good that it became one of the key moments in the marketing of this movie. Director Taika Waititi and everyone else on the Marvel team showed some real heroism there and through all the Hollywood politics, were able to do something very heart-warming.
