Legends of Tomorrow: Famous DC superhero teased for Arrowverse crossover
A comic book character from the 1930’s was teased for the Legends of Tomorrow part of the Arrowverse crossover.
A staple of the Arrowverse is the seasonal crossover event. This brings together Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl for a two-night event. For 2017, it will be Arrow (instead of its Thursday night airing) and Supergirl on Monday, and The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow on Tuesday.
Not much is known about the crossover, other than its airing on Monday, Nov. 27 and Tuesday, Nov. 28. However, executive producer Marc Guggenheim dropped a crossover teaser that will open a few eyes of long-time comic book fans.
Guggenheim posted a tweet and captioned that prep has begun for the Legends of Tomorrow part of the crossover. However, he included a photo of a mask. It doesn’t look like a current character’s on any of the four shows, so who could this be?
As CBR.com pointed out, this mask looked similar to what DC hero Wesley “Sandman” Dodds wore in the Golden Age. It dates back to 1939.
Sandman, a wizard in science, is able to sedate his foes with non-lethal gases. He also has brilliant detective skills that can be used toward solving a crime and bringing someone to justice.

Speaking of justice, the Sandman has ties to the Justice Society of America. He was a founder of this group, which formed around World War II.
It might not be a coincidence that Legends of Tomorrow introduced the JSA in season 2, which brought Amaya “Vixen” Jiwe to the Legends. She and the other JSA members showed up in 1942, and became key contributors throughout season 2. It also brought the Nate Heywood character to the forefront, who got to meet his grandfather, Henry Steel, better known as Commander Steel.
If Legends of Tomorrow continues its JSA story from season 2, then it could be how Sandman gets looped in. Maybe he’s brought in as a long-lost member of the group who Amaya never mentioned. If not, then there might not be any JSA connection to him, leading to another backstory used.
