Emilia Clarke dyes her hair ahead of filming Game of Thrones

Emilia Clarke now shares the same hair color as her character Daenerys Targaryen on Game of Thrones. Get excited.

Filming for season eight of Game of Thrones doesn’t get underway until next month, but it looks like Emilia Clarke is already preparing for it.

Clarke debuted her new Daenerys Targaryen-inspired, icy dye job on Instagram on Tuesday, her strands still wet from washing the dye out. (Yes, I realize I can’t write anything without referencing Jon, or featuring a photo of him. Re: scroll down.)

She wrote, “AAAAHHHHHHH SHHHHIIIII****** I done did it. Mother of dragons meet Emilia. Emilia meet mother of dragons. If you squint just so you might never know.”

For the past eight years of filming Thrones, Clarke has achieved Daenerys’ trademark platinum blonde hair with the help of some beautiful, complexly braided wigs. It’s a far cry from her natural brunette shade, but at least people will recognize her when she steps out of her win-worthy costumes! (She has spoken in multiple interviews about not being recognizable without the wigs.)

And while it is still likely that the wigs will be still featured in the upcoming season (natural hair can’t do what Dany’s hair does), it’s possible that she is just dyeing her hair to pay tribute to her character.

Clarke thanked the masterminds behind her new look—the same stylists responsible for crafting Dany’s ornate wigs—writing, “All hail to the magnificence of @kevalexanderhair and @candicebanks74 the genius creators of ‘KHALEESI WIG’ (and not forgetting all the hair on Game of Thrones for 8 glorious years) for at long last making this magical moment a reality.” She included a string of emojis and the hashtags, “#khaleesikicksoff #gameofthrones #cominghomeneverfeltsogood.”
