Gotham 402 review: “The Fear Reaper”

Gotham “The Fear Reaper” showed us that the GCPD is still strong and Bruce Wayne is one step closer to becoming Batman.

It’s still early in the fall television season and we’re only two episodes into Gotham but so far the story is moving quickly and the players are falling into place as the story develops. “The Fear Reaper” introduced us to Baby Bat while Selina and Tabitha are given the opportunity to join an exclusive new business venture by an old friend.

We wondered how Bruce would get out of the attempted robbery he fell into at the end of the season premiere, and it turns out that he could use Selina as an alibi. Though Gordon promised to follow up, it was Lucius Fox who showed up at Wayne Manor to give Bruce a little present: A kevlar suit with a comm system. This suit, Fox said, would help Bruce when he’s on his “rock climbing” excursions.

Meanwhile, Selina and Tabitha showed up to a warehouse after receiving an invitation. To their shock they found Barbara there. Not only is she alive (she advises Tabitha to check for a pulse next time) but she’s also the head of a weapons business and she wants Tabitha and Selina to get involved. Her master plan is to find out where the crimes will take place since they will only serve licensed criminals. Tabitha doesn’t want anything to do with it at first, but Selina wants to join up and eventually Tabitha sees the benefit to working together.

While Gordon was chasing the Scarecrow, Penguin took the opportunity to encourage the GCPD to get on board with his criminal licensing plan. Even Bullock has to point out to Gordon that this is but a battle in the greater war. Gordon needs to keep working whether or not the GCPD is on his side.
