Agents of SHIELD: Natalia Cordova-Buckley promoted to series regular
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has promoted Natalia Cordova-Buckley to series regular status for season five.
Go-Go, Yo-Yo!
Per Deadline, Marvel Television has announced that Natalia Cordova-Buckley, who plays fan favorite character Elena “Yo-Yo” Rodriguez, has been upped to series regular for season five of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
“Natalia is a powerhouse in her work and in her daily life, and she has imbued one of our favorite characters with her natural strength and humor,” says executive producers Jed Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen, and Jeffrey Bell of Cordova-Buckley. “Natalia was instanty a part of the S.H.I.E.L.D. family the first day she walked onto set, and we’re happy she’s now an official member of the S.H.I.E.L.D. team.”
Cordova-Buckley joined the series in the third season, where her character underwent Terrigenesis during the Inhumans Outbreak. Yo-Yo gained the ability to travel at superhuman speed—leastwise at 180 meters per second—unobserved or unnoticed by the human eye. Her power lasts exactly the same amount of time as a single heartbeat, after which she retrogrades to her original position. And when she runs, she is able to see her surroundings move in a slowed state. She has also become romantically involved with Alphonso “Mack” MacKenzie (Henry Simmons).
Yo-Yo also appeared in the web series Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Slingshot, which received a 2017 Webby Award win for Online Film & Video: Drama, Long Form or Series and a Webby People’s Voice Award for Best Drama. Slingshot was also nominated for a 2017 Emmy Award for Outstanding Short Form Comedy or Drama Series.

Marvel Television’s announcement comes just two days before Cordova-Buckley joins the cast and bosses of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. onstage for a panel at New York Comic Con. The panel, which is expected to take place on October 7 at the Theater at Madison Square Garden, is expected to unveil unseen footage of the new season.
