Lucifer 302 review: ROTF…dead?

Lucifer’s wings aren’t his only problem in “The One with the Baby Carrot.” In our review of season 3 episode 2, we examine Lucifer’s new target: The Sinner Man.

One of the drawbacks of being such a charismatic devil is that people are drawn to Lucifer, but not always for the right reasons. In Lucifer “The One with the Baby Carrot,” Lucifer and Chloe work to solve a murder among stand up comedians, but along the way Lucifer starts to learn more about the mysterious man known as The Sinner Man.

During the investigation into the comedy murders, Lucifer still believes that the Sinner Man is involved. Chloe rules this out because the Sinner Man isn’t real. Later, Lucifer gets a visit from Lieutenant Marcus Pierce who felt the need to break into Lucifer’s apartment in order to let him know that the Sinner Man is a real person, not just an urban myth. Pierce has crossed the Sinner Man before and it didn’t go well.

Meanwhile, in the middle of all of this week’s action Dr. Linda, who is still recovering from her injuries, helps Amenadiel dispose of Lucifer’s wings. While she’s able to help him realize that dealing with his exasperating brother is his test, she also starts to wonder if Lucifer is really avoiding the bigger issue. When she sees him at the end of the episode she tells him that perhaps he’s losing himself in his mission to get answers. That prompts Lucifer to get back into the favors business, which sees Lucifer back to his old ways.

Lucifer’s quest to find the Sinner Man and his possible collaboration with Pierce will no doubt be fun to watch this season. The Sinner Man keeps stealing pages from Lucifer’s playbook, almost like he’s taking on Lucifer’s bad traits while Lucifer’s wings return and he becomes more angelic. Lucifer is always at his best when he’s being himself in all of his glory, and now that the storyline with Charlotte has all but wrapped up, it will be nice to see him back to his old ways. Add to that his desire to tell Chloe the truth and we have the makings of a great season ahead of us.

What did you think of Lucifer 302? Do you have any ideas about who the Sinner Man might be and what he wants?
