Riverdale returned for season 2 on Wednesday, Oct. 11. It followed up on the dramatic season 1 finale, which saw Fred Andrews be shot by a masked or hooded assailant. The first scene of the season 2 premiere picked up where the show left off, as Archie Andrews dragged Fred into a hospital. His status was in doubt for most of the episode, until he awoke in the final minutes.

Before this, Archie was questioned by the Sheriff. He provided information on the man from Pop’s Diner, but held back how he didn’t do enough to stop him. A flashback also showed the hooded man hesitate, as he held a gun to Archie’s head. He of course didn’t shoot and ran away.

At the end of the episode, the hooded man returned. He appeared at Miss Grundy’s house, the teacher that developed a relationship with Archie in season 1, and killed her. Is this man only targetting people close to Archie? If so, what vendetta does he have?

The next episode is titled “Chapter Fifteen: Nighthawks.” The synopsis teases everyone finding out about the gunman killing Miss Grundy, the potential closing of Pop’s Diner, and Hiram Lodge being a focus of Veronica’s. This character, Veronica’s father, debuted in the season 2 premiere. He was mentioned throughout season 1 but never made an appearance.
