The latest episode of Supernatural is bringing some fire and brimstone as well as a familiar face to the quest to figure out Jack’s true nature.

In the second episode of season 13 Supernatural showed that the annual battle of good vs. evil is going to get personal for the Winchester brothers. Jack is still not in control of his powers. And it looks like there is a chance he could still be persuaded to use his powers for good, although Dean isn’t convinced.

Early in episode 2 the fourth angel of Hell, Asmodeus, appeared and took over the throne of Hell for Lucifer until Lucifer returns. Dressed in a pure white suit and dripping with old school cult style preacher vibes Asmodeus made it clear he’s in charge for the immediate future.

But, Hell just isn’t Hell without Crowley. The loss of Crowley is palpable. It remains to be seen if the show can recover the vibe it used to have without Crowley. Right now, it doesn’t look good. It feels like one of the gang is missing.

Asmodeus sends the demons out searching for Jack. He wants to bring Jack to Hell and teach him how to use his considerable powers.

The Winchesters are also trying to figure out what Jack’s powers are. And his movements that so closely resemble Castiel are wonderful. When the boys were trying to figure out what powers he has and asked him what he would do if he wanted to be on the other side of the door he got up and went outside, not understanding what teleportation is.

Jack’s Powers Are Instinctual

It’s clear that Jack has some pretty strong powers. But he can’t seem to control them. They are reactionary and things just happen when Jack is emotionally upset or in physical pain. The Winchesters try to get ward tattoos put on Jack to keep him safe but the tattoos disappear on his body. Later on he tries repeatedly stabbing himself only to watch the wounds heal. Last week an angel blade that should have killed him left a wound that healed instantly. For now it appears that Jack is unkillable.

The Prophet Returns

Unexpectedly Donatello shows up at the hotel where the Winchesters are trying to figure out more about Jack’s capabilities. He tells them that usually a Nephilim has stronger powers than the angel who fathered him. Which is pretty frightening news considering that Jack’s father is Lucifer.

Unfortunately Donatello also manages to lead the demons straight to Sam, Dean and Jack. Asmodeus kills a waitress at the bar and assumed her form to get information about Jack from Dean. And then he assumes Donatello’s shape and tricks Sam and Dean into leaving Jack with him. So now Asmodeus has Jack.

Fire And Brimstone

Asmodeus isn’t dressed like an old fashioned revival preacher for nothing. He plans on bringing some old time religion back to the people. And he’s going to use Jack and his powers to help further his own agenda. So as the boys argue about whether or not Jack is inherently evil due to his father Asmodeus is going to be trying to amplify Jack’s powers and use them for his plans and make Jack loyal to him and Lucifer in the process.

Meanwhile In The Alternate World

In the grim alternate world where Mary and Lucifer are trapped Lucifer is looking out for Mary and refuses to let her out of his sight. He plans on trading her to the Winchester boys to get Jack. Mary’s not ok with that plan, but right now she doesn’t have much of a choice. They still don’t know how they are going to escape and for now Mary needs Lucifer as much as needs her.
