Arrow remains a staple of the CW’s superhero universe. Stephen Amell has led the charge as Oliver Queen, the unknown hero and mayor of Star City. In “Tribute,” however, this was no longer the case for at least one of these roles.

Oliver began season 6 as a father, something he never had to do in the previous five seasons. It complicated his role as the Green Arrow and the mayor, making for a triple balancing act. That became too much, so he gave up being the Most Wanted Man in Star City, in order for William to feel less concerned about losing his mother (she died at Lian Yu) and father.

So, to close “Tribute,” Oliver asked John Diggle to be the new Green Arrow and accepted. It will be the first time someone new took over this role since the show began in 2012.

Diggle held back that he suffered nerve damage in the Lian Yu explosion. He was ready to tell Oliver, but was cut off and never said anything. This nerve damage made Diggle’s gun aim go awry in the first two episodes. Only Dinah Drake discovered the real reason for this, while the rest of Team Arrow doesn’t know why.

Aside from that, Diggle will assume Oliver’s role in “Next of Kin,” and try to live up to the hype. Will he stick as the Green Arrow?
