X-23 spin-off movie in development
An X-Men spin-off movie, X-23, is reportedly in development.
Things have grown wider and expansive in the world of mutants as a spin-off centered on X-23 (Laura) is in development.
Coming from The Hollywood Reporter, Logan co-writer and director, James Mangold explained, “We’re just working on a script.”
Since Hugh Jackman has made it clear that he will no longer be reprising his role as Wolverine, nor be involved in any further projects behind the scenes related to the X-Men franchise moving forward, a spin-off with Dafne Keen as X-23 makes the most sense.
Unless the film studios like 20th Century Fox and Marvel Studios are able to put aside their differences and have the Logan character crossover with the MCU. Jackman stated on ScreenRant that this is the only way he could possibly see his return.
Mangold discussed Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman paved the way for this kind of movie saying:
"“Patty’s success with that film only solidifies more for studios that there’s less to fear with a female protagonist.”“The more that keeps getting hit home, that ends up giving me more space turning around and going, ‘Well, here we are with a female protagonist. That’s incredible. And what are we going to do with her?’ And that’s where we are with that [the Laura script] right now, dreaming.”"
Craig Kyle, the creator of X-23 for the animated series X-Men: Evolution, is working with Mangold on the treatment.
Producer, Hutch Parker, of the X-Men franchise said:
"“Yes, there are other facets of that character and some others potentially to explore in their own way.”“It may not be in the same exact tonality or with the same genre orientations as Logan, but I think part of what has been opened up in this universe to all of us now is, drawing on different genre traditions, there are new pathways to be opened for new characters that populate this universe.”"
