Suicide Squad 2 could feature Dwayne Johnson’s debut as Black Adam.

Alas, we may finally get to see Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson suit up as the notorious godly evil-doer, Black Adam. No, it won’t be in the 2019 superhero flick Shazam or the rumored Black Adam solo flick. According to The Wrap, Suicide Squad 2 will introduce Black Adam to DC’s Extended Universe — when Task Force X is asked to track down a weapon of mass destruction who’ll be none other than, Black Adam.

For a while, Black Adam was nothing more than the counterpart to Shazam, however, over his history is more complex than that —  he’s extremist, and an anti-villain of sorts. Teth Adam was the son of the Pharoah Ramses from the fictional land of Kahndaq born thousands of years ago. Adam was a slave who exuded a high moral compass and goodwill — the qualities that influenced the Wizard Shazam to name Adam as his successor. However, unlike the Shazam we know today, Adam summons the powers of the Egyptian gods  Shu, Heru, Amon, Zehuti, Aton and Mehen.

While on a mission, Adam’s family was murdered, and with the help of the Justice League of America he delivered justice. However, to the surprise of many, his taste for blood was not very hero like. Adam would eventually fall out favor with the Wizard after he believed Adam was conspiring against him. The consequence was eternal entrapment inside a mystical amulet. Adam would rise again when the father of Billy Batson (C.C.) led an expedition to the tomb where the amulet housing Adam’s spirit was being kept.

If the rumor is true, then Suicide Squad 2 will be the first time Johnson will get to play the role since being attached to the villain way back in 2008. The news, however, does correlate with the Rock’s statements back in May when he assured fans that there was a really cool surprise cooking for Black Adam’s DCEU introduction. Allegedly the role won’t take up much of the Rock’s busy schedule as his part is expected to be “short.” Whether or not it’s a big introduction doesn’t matter. Seeing the Rock take on the role can only mean good news for the DCEU since they have plans to give Johnson’s Black Adam a solo film.

Suicide Squad 2 is expected to begin filming in October 2018 despite not yet have a director. Though rumors suggest Warrior director, Gavin O’Conner will take on the duties.
