American Horror Story Cult: Getting ready for the finale

With one episode remaining of American Horror Story Cult, the stage has been set for either a massive coup d’etat or a colossal collapse. Or both.

Up until this point in American Horror Story Cult’s lauded and highly discussed season 7, Kai has been leading a quest to unravel the fabric of society. Every step has been meticulously planned and plotted in his criminally insane brain and like a chess game, he has plotted every outcome. Until now.

Kai’s undoing would seem to be Ally. Although she was the underdog and apparent victim in the first few episodes, Ally has proved without a shadow of a doubt that she’s on his level when it comes to revenge and getting what she wants. She killed her wife, and she won’t let anything get in the way of having her son Oz back with her, even if that means that she has to go along with Kai’s (false) claims that Oz is his son.

Therein lies the irony. The only time Kai cracked was when Ally showed him the falsified documents that said Kai was the boy’s father. Kai said he wished the truth into reality, signaling that he didn’t actually know whether or not he was Oz’s father. That hairline fracture was all Ally needed to take him down because now she knows he is fallible.

With “Charles (Manson) in Charge” we saw Ally get into the car with Speedwagon after he smashed the wire he’d been wearing. Speedwagon looked an awful lot like the man pictured in the sperm bank’s documents…and Ally didn’t seem to want to hurt him, so could it be that he’s Oz’s real father, and she’s going to use him to break free of the cult? She certainly has enough dirt on him to make Kai very angry.

The stage has been set for a very interesting season finale. The only original major players left alive are Ally, Kai, Beverly and Oz. Will they end up as a happy family in Kai’s twisted world, or will Ally and Beverly work together to bring Kai down?

The season finale of American Horror Story Cult is Tuesday, November 14 at 10pm ET on FX.
