The Justice League movie will have a shorter run time than the usual DC Extended Universe films.
The Justice League movie will be the latest superhero film to hit theaters, following Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok. It’s the first DC Extended Universe picture since June’s Wonder Woman, which was considered a box office success, and the fifth movie of this series. Zack Snyder and Joss Whedon contributed their directorial efforts at different times of production.
DCEU movies tend to go beyond two hours. Whether that’s a good thing or not is up to your discretion, but Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman were all over this mark, with Batman v Superman hitting about three hours.
Justice League will be different from these four pictures, with the shortest run time of them all of 119 minutes, or 1 hour and 59 minutes. It’s a condensed look at what may be the future of DCEU movies, if it plans to become more like Marvel’s somewhat short times. The same goes for tone, with Justice League having a potentially lighter feel than the grit of Man of Steel and Dawn of Justice.
Will the shorter length make for a better movie? That’s unknown and won’t be determined until it hits theaters. The action won’t be as spread out — unlike its predecessors — so how will that play on the big screen? We’ll see if it allows the proper time for Aquaman, Batman, Cyborg, the Flash and Cyborg to unite against Steppenwolf and thwart his plans.
