How the DCEU will be more diverse, with the heroes to make it happen.

In just a few days, Justice League is set to hit theaters with a ton of hype and anticipation for better or worse. It’s this polarizing aura that has surrounded the DC’s Extended Universe from the time of its birth in 2013 with Man of Steele. No matter what you may think about the DCEU — there’s one undeniable trait that exists, and that’s diversity. In fact, one can say that DC has served as a pioneer for the way female superheroes are viewed, thanks to massive success Wonder Woman. And with a sequel on the horizon, it seems like DC is just getting their feet wet. As a matter of fact, according to Justice League actor, Ezra Miller, who spoke with the Toronto Sun, DC’s looking to really dive into “wide spectrum” of superhero storytelling.

"“What I think is really amazing is the variety that’s at play and how DC is really aiming to provide a wide spectrum of movies and to use these characters to tell a lot of different stories in a lot of different ways. There will be funny movies, frightening movies, deeply serious dramas and then movies like our film, which I think balances those tones in a new, interesting and compelling manner. That diversity in the way these heroes will be featured is really exciting.”"

Hate it or love it, but it sounds like we should gear up for a whole lot of DC movies, and why not? Fans have been flocking to the movie theaters in anticipation to see their favorite DC heroes, while critics may not agree is a different story. Nevertheless, DC seems to have some sort of direction, and that’s providing fans with a plethora of genre versatile films — and they have the heroes to do it.

Dystopian – Flash

Warner Bros already has major plans for their Flash solo film to be based on Flashpoint — Gal Gadot has already been confirmed and there’s no doubt a few others will follow in what could be the DCEU’s disaster movie. Like any dystopian movie, there’s a lot of destruction, explosions, death, chaos, darkness and a heroic protagonist. Those are all the elements that exist within Flashpoint, a story that follows an alternate reality created by Barry Allen after he goes back in time to stop Reverse Flash from killing his mother.

In a world that’s fitting for DC, Flashpoint is gritty dark, and humans are caught in the middle of Aquaman’s Atlantean vs. Wonder Woman’s Amazons, a war that has destroyed the world. This can and probably will be the DCEU’s dystopian film as Barry tries to do what he can to regain his powers a make the world right again. Flashpoint is ways away, but fans can get a taste of what they have to look forward to with DC’s animated film Flashpoint Paradox.

Horror – Justice League Dark

Justice League Dark is group of DC’s darkest heroes who ban together thanks to Madame Xanadu and led by the chain-smoking warlock, John Constantine. Their adventures follow them on their journey as they tackle the supernatural villains of DC with the help of Zatanna, Swap Thing, Deadman, and Etrigan the Demon.

As a matter of fact, DC has plans to build an entire universe around these heroes and with fans, undoubtedly yearning for something “different'” a horror film would do just that. Right now writer Gerard Johnstone is currently working on script revisions, now all they have to do is hold on to a director and we can get us a superhero horror film from the DCEU.
