Arrow season 6, episode 8 review: Crisis on Earth-X, Part 2

Crisis on Earth-X took over Arrow’s eighth episode of season 6. What happened in Part 2?

This episode of “Crisis on Earth-X,” technically for Arrow, started with the reveal of Tommy Merlyn as Prometheus. Yes, that Tommy Merlyn, from season 1 of Arrow that died. He wasn’t seen in the Arrowverse since 2013. Unbelievable how things work, right?

Well, if you wanted for this version of Tommy to remain, don’t get your hopes up. He wouldn’t reveal anything to Oliver Queen and committed suicide, taking a pill. Given Colin Donnell’s role on Chicago Med, it would be surprising to ever see him return for a full-time role or even part-time spot. He’s also dead in Earth-1, but that hasn’t stopped resurrections before.

The underlying plan for the Nazis comes to light, which the heroes learned was Dark Supergirl, Dark Arrow and Dark Flash under the masks. Dark Flash was also Eobard Thawne of Earth-1.

Anyway, we found out the Nazi dopplegangers stole a prism, to help save a sick Overgirl that needs a heart transplant. They want to use this prism to cut into Supergirl and use her heart for Overgirl. Looks like Evil Kara will die on Tuesday night, because she didn’t during the first night of “Crisis on Earth-X.” Oh, and they want to take over Earth. Kind of typical for your average, everyday supervillains, right? Except for the hydrogen bomb that’s in play.

Meanwhile, a handful of suplots developed. One of which surrounded Jefferson Jackson and Martin Stein, who received ample time in both parts of Monday night. Stein and Jackson worked toward an official separation, until Jax got cold feet and decided he wanted to stick with his other half, despite a desire for retirement.

More from TV

Alex, who just broke up with Maggie on Supergirl, had a one-night-stand with Sara Lance in Part 1. It doesn’t look like it will become anything, yet, as Alex played it off as being upset over losing Maggie and if she was wrong to have differences.

In the third and final relationship-heavy subplot, Oliver and Felicity attempted to talk about the failed marriage proposal of Part 1. They struggled to speak about it, until Felicity said she didn’t want to be married. So, for anyone who hoped for an official Olicity return, that doesn’t look possible, for now.

To close the crossover’s second part, the heroes were captured by their Nazi counterparts. This included Metallo, who helped Overgirl capture and apparently transport the heroes to Earth-X. They appeared in what looked like a modern-day setting that mimicked a concentration camp.

Crisis Notes

  • There’s too many feel-good scenes with Stein, which can only mean one thing.
  • Not disappointed that Olicity won’t “officially” become a thing. It lets the Arrow writers play around with future love interests for Oliver and Felicity, or decide to do nothing and just let them be. So, don’t expect their Facebook relationship statuses to change anytime soon.
  • It was great to see Colin Donnell back, even for one night. He’s still a missed character on Arrow, but barring a role change on Chicago Med, it’s impossible to think he’ll make a return. Killing him off in minutes seemed to justify this.
  • This didn’t happen in the second part, but at the wedding, there was the mysterious girl that seemed too giddy over Barry and Iris’ wedding. We never discovered her identity, but it couldn’t have meant nothing. Is this a child of theirs that traveled from the future?
  • An interesting theme the Nazi doppelgangers played up, was the whole “you’re weak” gimmick. Will Oliver actually kill his evil self? I can’t see him or anyone doing this on Tuesday night.
