Recap and review of episode 8 of season 3 of Supergirl titled “Crisis on Earth-X, Part 1”.

The Supergirl part of “Crisis on Earth-X” begins on Earth-X, a dark place where the Nazis have taken over. In a guarded alley, a scientist comes out of the garage on a coffee break. Whatever he’s working on is supposed to be mankind’s last hope, but a masked attacker appears shooting arrows at the scientist and the guards. After the attacker believes to be done, Guardian shows up and a fight breaks out between the two.

Unfortunately, Guardian is beaten and killed by evil Green Arrow. He later enters the warehouse and looks onto what the scientist was working on and says “with this our rein will last for eternity”.

After the credits, we are in Central City where Flash is fighting a shark monster on the streets. Iris calls over the radio to tell him that not everyone has RSPV’ed to their wedding. When he asks who hasn’t, we are taken to Star City where Green Arrow is in the middle of a fight as well. Felicity is asking over the radio about the wedding.

Then, we are taken to England in 1183 where the team from Legends of Tomorrow are discussing attending the wedding as they fight the king’s men (Robin Hood timeline). Finally, we are in National City where Supergirl is fighting a mean alien. When she wins the fight, Mon-El asks at the DEO is there’s anything he can do to help. Alex lets him know that Supergirl took care of it.

Later that night, Alex is at Kara’s place for girl’s night and they are discussing Mon-El. Kara decides to get out of their funk and attend Barry’s wedding. She grabs a remote and opens up a portal in her apartment. I wonder if they packed.

If you haven’t noticed yet, the crossover episode we’ve been waiting for is here! The portal opens in Central City and Supergirl flies in. The women are at the nail salon getting ready for the wedding and catching up while Barry and Oliver are getting fitted for their tuxes. Back in the lab, Cisco is working on a serum he’s calling “the calm after the Firestorm”. While Stein is overjoyed about the serum, Jefferson seems to be a little disappointed.

Back in Earth X, the warehouse with the new technology from the beginning of the episode is taken over by the Nazis. As evil Green Arrow and the Nazi scientist discuss the rebel tech, the scientist advises that they should test it in case it’s a trap. We assume to see the bottom half of evil Supergirl fly in who gives the scientist a 24-hour deadline to test the tech.

Back at Central City, Caitlin and Stein talk about what he plans to do after he’s no longer Firestorm. At the wedding rehearsal dinner, we see all the characters of our favorite CW shows interact and mingle. Alex makes a new friend as she tries to forget Maggie over scotch. Barry finds Kara and asks for a favor. Kara updates Barry on the whole Mon-El being married situation. She still believes that her main job is to be Supergirl and to be alone.

Barry gets back to the favor he wanted to ask Kara. We all remember the musical episode, and it seems that Barry wants Kara to sing (yay!!). Stein finally makes it to the rehearsal dinner and pulls Jefferson away to show him what he’s been up to. Stein made a serum to give Jefferson superpowers that he extracted from a spider. Marvel superhero name drop alert! Unfortunately, the only superpower he’ll get from the serum is the ability to be super sticky.

Joe gets everyone’s attention and makes a touching speech for Barry and Iris. While everyone is inside toasting to Barry and Iris, Alex and Sara are making out outside. Oliver and Felicity have a private conversation where it seems that Oliver wants to get married, but he’s not doing the best job of conveying his feelings. Finally, he asks her to marry him and Felicity says “no”. When Oliver pushes for clarification, Felicity yells out “Oliver, I don’t want to marry you” and everyone in the room lets out a gasp.

The next morning, everyone is waking up in post-wedding rehearsal drama. Alex wakes up next to Sara and tries to gracefully sneak out of the bedroom without waking her. Kara is pretty in pink lace as she waits for Alex outside of the church, who finally shows up hungover. When Kara tries to find out where Alex has been, Alex seems to give weird excuses. Fortunately, Sara finally shows up to the church and Kara gets the picture of what happened to Alex and her butt.

More from Superheroes

As everyone gets ready for the wedding to begin, a waitress with a tray of water approaches Barry. We are not quite sure why she’s so excited to be at this wedding in particular but she believes it’s “one for the ages”. As the wedding begins, Kara takes the mic and sings while Iris walks down the aisle. The priest begins the ceremony, but when he asks his anyone has any just cause for why Barry and Iris shouldn’t be wed, a beam hits the priest and his vanishes. The Nazis have ruined the wedding.

Fortunately for us, the Nazis have no idea that this wedding is filled with superheroes and a brawl breaks out in the church. Kara flies out of the church and takes on evil Supergirl. There is so much action going on, I sort of wish this was available in VR. Cisco teleports Oliver to the balcony where he faces off with evil Green Arrow. Kara does a classic Superman move and claps her hands causing a sonic boom that catches evil Supergirl off guard.

Evil Green Arrow carries evil Supergirl, calls the retreat, throws a flash grenade, and they escape the church. Later in the lab, Cisco is unconscious after getting hit on the head at the church. One of the Nazi goons is escorted to a prison where the heroes plan on questioning him. Part one of “Crisis on Earth X” ends with evil Supergirl promising that they will have another opportunity to kill the heroes.

Final Thoughts:

Crossover episodes are so much fun. It’s most likely, since this is another world, that Alex and Sara’s one night stand is just that. When you are literally worlds apart, it would be difficult to have a relationship. I do think that this was necessary for her to get over Maggie. Like that saying goes “best way to get over an ex is to get under someone else”. I’d also like to point out that Alex’s breakup wallowing didn’t last as long as Kara in the sense of how many episodes it took to let the viewers know that she’s post-relationship.

Given, Alex isn’t the main character of the show and we still have the rest of the season, but I think the writers of Supergirl handled well. Kara, on the other hand, still has more Mon-El drama to deal with when she returns to National City. I honestly think Kara needs to take a page from Alex’s book and move on already. Mon-El obviously has with his new wife.

While this episode was a great way to fanboy/fangirl out to seeing all of our favorite DC heroes together, I did feel that it was slow to get to the exciting action scene in the church that made this episode worthwhile. I’m giving this episode of Supergirl a 3/5.
