It is a big week for comic book fans and on top of all the live-action craziness, there are also some comic books coming out today.

Here is a short list of some of the comic books worth checking out this week. Let’s take a look.

John Wick #1: Written by Greg Pak and art by Giovanni Valletta. This new comic book take on the Keanu Reeves cult hit is the tale of a young John Wick fresh out of prison and starting his first journey of vengeance. He will take on a powerful community of assassins and learn to master the Book of Rules.

Everyone has wondered where John Wick started and how he learned all the tricks of his trade. What are the Three Bills? Who is Calamity? This is the origin story of John Wick and how he became the legend that he is today.

Batman: Creature of the Night #1:Written by Kurt Busiek and art by John Paul Leon. A long time ago these two got together to create a story called Superman: Secret Identity and it is one of my favorite comic book Superman stories ever. Now they are taking on the Batman. This time young Bruce Wainwright lost his parents again, but this is the real world and there are no superheroes. Something is brewing in the heart of young Bruce and something strange is rising in Gotham City.

This is yet another new take on the Batman story and it promises to be something we have never seen before. The Batman comic books of today are really killing it all over the place and I am looking forward to this one quite a bit.

Old Man Logan # 31: Written by Ed Brisson and art by Mike Deodato Jr.. This version of Wolverine has really been through the ringer and is no stranger to the violence of ninjas. As always, Logan’s past will come back to haunt him when a lover from his history will pull him into a confrontation with the organization known as the Hand. Old Man Logan will encounter the mysterious Scarlet Samurai. He will have to figure out who she is and take down the Hand before they take this old man apart.

The classic version of Wolverine is currently on his way back to the land of the living and no one knows how that will affect the Old Man Logan version. Either way, Ed Brisson is guiding Logan through a cavalcade of his older and most classic enemies.

Super Sons Annual #1: Written by Peter J. Tomasi and art by Paul Pelletier. The Super Sons series has been one of the best reasons to see the fun return to superheroes. For this annual issue, the pets of our favorite sons will take center stage. Krypto and Titus are finally teaming up and playing the lead on their own animal adventure. This looks like the perfect one-off premise for an annual issue and will be a ton of fun.

Sword of Ages #1: Written and art by Gabriel Rodriguez. I’ve had an appreciation for the work of Gabriel Rodriguez ever since I read Locke and Key. He has a very impressive style and this looks interesting. He is writing and drawing this one himself, so it is a pretty singular vision that he is achieving. The Sword will be drawn for the first time ever in this 5 issue mini-series.

A young woman will become the sword’s first wielder and the champion for her world’s survival. She will inspire a legion of heroes to join her fight against the ruthless force of aliens that are threatening them. This series will erase the lines between science fiction, fantasy, and magic.

Spider-Gwen #26: Written by Jason Latour and art by Robbi Rodriguez. This is part 2 of the Gwenom story line. Gwen Stacy has made an alliance with the parasite known as Venom and there is no easy way out. Now S.H.I.E.L.D. has set their sights on her and she’ll have to give herself over to the power of the symbiote to survive. This storyline is worth picking up for the covers alone. Spider-Gwen has been one of my favorites since the series launched and getting to see the alternate versions of our favorite characters is really the best part.
