The Vision

Ever since the android formerly known as Jarvis (Paul Bettany) had the Mind Stone embedded in his forehead during Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), he’s lived on borrowed time. After all, was anyone watching the trailer surprised when they saw one the Children of Thanos digging the stone out of Vision’s forehead? Everyone knew that, for Thanos to get all the Infinity Stones, Vision will have to die.

That said, it’s odd the trailer would still spoil a major character death like this. Unless, of course, the Vision doesn’t die in that particular scene. At least not yet.

If you take a close look, Vision’s forced lobotomy occurs in same place during the Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) reveal. What could be happening is just as the Children of Thanos are about to obtain the Mind Stone, Steve, along with Black Widow (Scarlet Johansson) and maybe Falcon (Anthony Mackie), arrive to Vision and Scarlet Witch’s (Elizabeth Olsen) rescue. After all, this scene looks as though it’s taking place before the major battle at Wakanda, so it’d be silly to kill Vision off this early in the film.

Nevertheless, the Vision isn’t long for this world, especially if, by the end of Avengers: Infinity War, Thanos has all six Infinity Stones. Vision’s death would also serves three purposes. First, given what looks like a blossoming romance between Vision and Scarlet Witch, it gives her a reason for rejoining the Avengers. Second, with one of the most powerful heroes gone, it puts the Avengers at a big disadvantage heading into the fourth film.

Finally, the death of an Avenger would be what allows Steve and Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) setting aside their differences. In short, Vision, like Coulson’s demise in the first Avengers movie, is what could unite all the heroes.
