Team-Ups and Crossovers

Guardians of the Galaxy was the first movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to introduce a whole ensemble at once. Thanks to James Gunn’s great direction and some talented actors, a Marvel property with relatively no mainstream appeal was a smash hit. It was also a signal that Marvel should take more chances with its movies, as even the weirdest in Marvel might find success. With such open minds working on these projects, its fair to say we may find another hit in the development in other teams or maybe even events or what ifs.

One of the best bets for a new team-based Marvel movie is definitely Thunderbolts. With DC’s Suicide Squad garnering audiences this past summer, it wouldn’t surprise me if fans were ready for Marvel’s own anti-hero/villain team-up. Whether it included a couple already established Marvel characters or a full new cast, Thunderbolts would be a great chance to hook audiences into the darker side of Marvel. The other team for Marvel to experiment with is the Young Avengers. These upstart heroes could be inspired by the ‘first wave’ of heroes, and make their debut in their own movie. With the likes of Wiccan, Hulkling, and America Chavez, we could very well see the future of Marvel movies from a film like Young Avengers.

As for events or what-ifs? It would be really interesting to play with the source material for the Axis event or the Marvel 1602 timeline. Axis is an event that largely deals with the reversal of the moral alignments of several Marvel characters. Marvel 1602 is a timeline in which Marvel’s heroes exist but have appeared in the year 1602 (rather than the 20th century). While it’s a bit out there, both Axis and Marvel 1602 would be creative decisions to develop and would be unlike any other film they’ve made so far.
