9. Quasar

The Wendell Vaughn version of Quasar first appeared in Captain America #217 in 1978 as Marvel Man, how convenient. Since then, he appeared in comics such as The Incredible Hulk and Avengers.

Revamped under the identity of Quasar, Vaughn graduated from S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy (apparently this intelligence agency has its own education institution) and desiring to do field work he worked in security for a research facility (naturally).

A team of scientists were experimenting on the mysterious Quantum Bands from a befallen extra-terrestrial hero known as The Crusader. Vaughn bared these bands once the forces of A.I.M. (Advanced Idea Mechanics) waged a full–scale assault on the facility.

Vaughn, once known as Marvel Boy, then Marvel Man, settled on Quasar (thank god) and worked with S.H.I.E.L.D. for some time and became the new designated title of Protector of the Universe that was filled by Captain Marvel (Mar-vell). Quasar did take part in the conflict during the Infinity Gauntlet storyline in the comics as well as others such as Namor.

As far as to my knowledge, there is a Professor Vaughn, who was a teacher at the S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy of Science and Technology in the MCU but that is not to say it is their live-action version of Vaughn, who would eventually become Quasar as in the comics. However, aside from Doctor Strange, Earth’s heroes are in dire need of a defender who for all intents and purposes is a blaster with experience within the field. He is also intelligent, courageous and resourceful.
