Every week it is a challenge to try and decide which comic books are worth taking a look at.

There are new comic books out for the week of Dec. 6. What does this include? Let’s take a look.

Captain America #696: Written by Mark Waid and art by Chris Samnee. The return of the one true Captain America continues. This issue promises a battle with the brand new version of the villain known as the Swordsman. The previews promise a big sword versus shield battle unlike anything we’ve seen before. After everything they pulled off on their Black Widow run, I trust Samnee and Waid to deliver on this.

Steve Rogers is on a quest to clean up his good name and the organization known as Rampart is the latest evil gang to get in his way. It looks like they will be new stand in for Hydra until the evil organization resurrects itself.

Batman #36: Written by Tom King and art by Clay Mann. This issue promises to reunite the super friends of Batman and Superman. The two of them have been a bit estranged of late and need to work out their respective issues. This story will try to redefine how these two heroes see each other. It has been described as a tale that will show us how the fears and hopes they see in each other have shaped their epic friendship. With Batman’s new fiancee, I am sure that Superman will have something to say about that.

Astonishing X-Men #6: Written by Charles Soule and art by Mike Del Mundo. This is the big conclusion of the first arc of the relaunched Astonishing X-Men. The fate of these members of the X-Men and what is left of Professor Xavier’s mind all hang in the balance as the Shadow King makes his final moves for world domination and control over the bodies of the X-Men in his mental trap. The last issue ended with the re-emergence of the apocalyptic version of Archangel and sacrifices will have to be made if the X-Men want to save their world from the grip of the Shadow King.

Batman Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II #1: Written by James Tynion IV and art by Freddie E. Willaims II. The same team that brought us the surprise hit crossover series of the original Batman and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles story have returned to give us something brand new. This time it looks like Bane will be visiting the Turtles version of New York City. Donatello accidentally lets Bane jump into their reality and it is up to Donatello to bring Batman back in order to stop Bane before he takes over the city he and his brothers call home.

Justice League #34: Written by Christopher Priest and art by Pete Woods. Christopher Priest is now taking the reigns of the Justice League title and it looks like he plans on destroying the League from within. The League will be confronted with three threats all at once and an exhausted Batman will make a mistake that has dire consequences. It will cause an unthinkable tragedy that will shake the team to its core. Legendary scribe, Priest, promises a brand new League story that we have never seen before.

Witchblade #1: Written by Caitlin Kittredge and art by Roberta Ingranata. The Witchblade has returned with a new story and an all-new wielder. Alex Underwood was shot and left for dead on a New York rooftop. She should be dead, but luckily in that moment of death she will become the latest host to the mystical artifact known as the Witchblade. She is alive, but this new power will come with a terrible price. Alex will be thrown headfirst into an unseen battle on the streets of New York. Demons are not a myth anymore and all of them want the head of the newest wielder of the Witchblade. Alex Underwood died and now she is in for the fight of her life.
