Season 2 of Jessica Jones will premiere in 2018, as a release date and trailer was announced.

In 2015, Jessica Jones became the second show to debut in the Marvel-Netflix universe. Krysten Ritter portrayed Jessica Jones, the private investigator/superhero that roamed the streets of Hell’s Kitchen. She rivaled Kilgrave, the man who tormented Jessica’s life and returned to do more harm.

Despite season 1 airing in 2015, this show never received a second season. That’s while Daredevil aired two seasons, along with the debuts of Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders and The Punisher. However, after The Defenders aired, season 2 of Jessica Jones went into development.

On Saturday afternoon, a surprise trailer and release date were dropped for the second season of this Marvel-Netflix show. It’s 55 seconds of Ritter’s character in action, with “Barracuda” by Heart in the background. Explosions, feats of strength, familiar and new faces were shown in this clip:

Who will Jessica face in season 2? Images from Entertainment Weekly revealed David Tennant’s Kilgrave will return. How far that goes remains to be seen, as he was killed in season 1.

Speaking of this, the trailer showed Jessica in handcuffs. Will that be for the Kilgrave murder? If so, it could create a vigilante storyline, somewhat similar to Oliver Queen’s on Arrow. Except Jones won’t be hiding from an identity but trying to defend her actions in court.

Along with this, there should be fallout from the events of The Defenders. How will the titular character be changed from the battle to close the eight-episode series?

Whatever the case may be, we now know when Jessica Jones will arrive on Netflix. It should make for an intriguing three months of build, before the show follows up on The Punisher’s momentum, the most recent Marvel-Netflix show that debuted in November.
