Legends of Tomorrow: Who can replace Firestorm?

1. Jay Garrick

When Legends of Tomorrow lost Martin Stein, it was the departure of a veteran voice or a fatherly figure. The remaining characters don’t fit that description. Neither would Jesse Quick, Wally West, Citizen Cold or John Constantine.

Everyone’s noticed Wally’s absence and Jesse’s hasn’t been as publicized, but was explained near the start of The Flash’s fourth season. There’s one more speedster, however, who didn’t appear in season 4 and since the events of season 3: Jay Garrick.

Garrick was freed from the speed force, and helped Team Flash defeat Savitar. He didn’t return to this speedster prison, instead returning to Earth-3 in the season 3 finale.

While that’s a reasonable explanation for Garrick’s departure, he’s hardly been mentioned in season 4, if at all. John Wesley Shipp made occasional appearances since his Henry Allen character was killed and took over this legendary comic book character. The fact this didn’t happen yet in season 4 should open some eyes, at least before reading Shipp’s comments to Digital Spy, who confirmed his character will return:

"“Yes, I believe I can say that,” Shipp said. “I’ve not had it confirmed, but the answer to that is yes!”"

Could these plans be outside of Central City? While it’s possible Garrick assists Team Flash with Barry’s imprisonment, they can use Wally in that role, rather than sitting him out as a series regular. That leaves Jay’s book open, if he can take time away from Earth-3 (an opportune time for a subtle reference about another speedster).

Getting back to the veteran presence. It’s a figure the Legends don’t have anymore, someone that can be a secondary leader behind Sara Lance, working with the team for the last nine episodes. Garrick can be the voice of reason for the other members, as he’s dealt with all kinds of threats from multiple universes.
