Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse trailer brings Miles Morales to life
The trailer for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was released on Saturday.
Over the weekend, we have been treated to the much–anticipated animated motion picture Spider-Man, with the official trailer and title Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
In April 2015, after the November 2014 Sony hack, at the CinemaCon, chairman of Sony Pictures Tom Rothman, announced the release of the animated Spider-Man film.
The film will feature Miles Morales as the webslinger based on the second volume of the Spider-Man title from the Ultimate Marvel imprint, called Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man by Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli.
From the looks of the trailer, it seems to reference the Death of Spider-Man story arc where an alternate version of the universe in Earth–1610 featured a much younger Peter Parker outside of the mainstream line of comics, who died at the hands of that universe’s mutated and grotesque Green Goblin while trying to save his friends and family.
This could actually reference a five-issue miniseries from 2012 called Spider-Man, as within the story the original wall-crawler (the adult and more seasoned Peter Parker) crosses from Earth–616 to Earth–1610 to meet the second Spider-Man, which is Morales under the mask.
Plus, judging from the title, it could reference and draw inspiration from the 2014 storyline, Spider-Verse, which included Spidey across all media, but whether they will tackle alternate universes and string theory is not quite known, but one thing is for certain it will unlikely feature the villain such as Morlun and his vampire-like race and family, the Inheritors.
Into the Spider-Verse is directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman from a screenplay by Phil Lord and screen story by Lord, Christopher Miller and Alex Hirsch.
Lord, Miller, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad and Christina Steinberg are producing under Columbia Pictures, Sony Pictures Animation in association with Marvel Entertainment. Sony Pictures will distribute.
It stars the voices of Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, Mahershala Ali as Aaron Davis the uncle of Morales and Brian Tyree Henry as his father Jefferson Davis. Liev Schreiber has joined the cast as the feature’s main antagonist.
Next: 50 greatest super heroes in comic book history
My guess would be Schreiber could be playing either Norman Osborn or the Mexican iteration of the Scorpion (Maximus Gargan) from Earth–1610.
The film will come to theaters December 14th, 2018.
