Marvel gets X-Men, Fantastic Four after Disney-Fox deal
Disney and Fox announced a historic deal on Thursday, which brings Marvel some of its most coveted assets.
For the past few weeks, speculation grew about Marvel, owned by Disney, potentially having the X-Men, Deadpool and the Fantastic Four under its umbrella. These assets were owned by Fox, who used the popular comic book characters in movies like X-Men, Deadpool, Fantastic Four and Logan. Thus, it would require a deal between Disney and Fox.
On Thursday morning, an agreement was officially announced. Disney bought most of 21st Century Fox’s assets for $52.4 billion.
On the comic book side of things, Disney confirmed the X-Men, Deadpool and Fantastic Four will be under its ownership, with the full statement on ScreenRant.com. That’s after doubt about the latter’s status. That means the floodgates can open for Avengers crossovers, new movies with these characters and newfound territory for Marvel Studios.
You can start dreaming up scenarios of these characters teaming with each other. Wolverine may appear with Captain America. Deadpool and the Hulk can take down some villain from New York City. The Fantastic Four arrives for another movie (that hopefully doesn’t bomb at the box office, again) and brings Marvel’s first family its cinematic universe. These are just some of the possibilities for the future of Marvel’s movie landscape.
As for television, there’s already The Gifted and Legion, among other hero-related shows Fox owned. Could Marvel create more programs around mutants?
