Will The Flash air a new episode tonight, December 19?
Earlier this month, The Flash went on its midseason hiatus. Will the show air a new episode on Tuesday, Dec. 19?
On Tuesday, Dec. 5, The Flash aired its midseason finale. This brought the first half of Barry Allen and Clifford DeVoe’s fight to its culmination, with the titular character accused of a crime he didn’t commit to send fans into the dreaded winter hiatus. It was a cliffhanger to keep everyone waiting and anxious for the show’s eventual return.
The CW usually places its shows on its winter break in the first or second week of December, around episode 9 of the program’s respective season. It’s technically not the “midway point,” but still leaves around 13 episodes for the second half, in the new year. Shows like Arrow, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl hit this mark, too.
This extended break runs through the middle of January, past the holiday season and New Year’s Eve (and Day). It’s a time when the usual viewers may not be in front of their television screens, so the CW waits until one to two weeks after, before returning your favorite show.
What does that mean for The Flash? Well, if you expected to see season 4, episode 10 on Tuesday, Dec. 19, you wouldn’t be in luck. There won’t be a new airing, as the show doesn’t return until Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 8:00 p.m. ET on The CW, meaning there’s a full four weeks until The Flash hits the small screen for its final slate of episodes in season 4.

It’s a long wait, but, with the approaching holiday season, it cuts the time down. By Jan. 1, it will be just 15 days until the Scarlet Speedster returns, to get himself out of another predicament, so season 4’s return may be here sooner than you think. Can you wait another four weeks for The Flash?
